Guidance

Guidance Mission

Our mission is to provide a quality education for all children.

Guidance Vision

Our vision is to ensure a safe environment that will support the academic, social, emotional, and technological skills of our children. We understand that Home-School-Community working together can make a difference!
As school counselor, I assist our children as they grow and develop as individuals and learners. Guidance and counseling are essential components of the educational process, helping students to recognize strengths, needs, and abilities, while helping them to develop life strategies to realize their full potential. It has been said, “No man is an island,” therefore, the primary role of school counselor is to implement a developmental guidance and counseling program that will help all students acquire skills that will support their academic, social, emotional, and technological skills necessary for living in today’s global society. I serve as an advocate for children as I work closely with educators, parents and community members to provide opportunities for our children to develop skills and strategies necessary to become caring, responsible, and productive citizens.

S. C. Comprehensive Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program

The purpose ot a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program in a school setting is to promote and enhance the learning process. This program facilitates student development in three broad areas.

Learning to Live (Personal/Social Development)

This area is an integral part to provide the foundation for personal growth and the pursuit of success in life. To understand and respect self, relate positively to others, make informed and safe decisions, cope effectively with change, and become responsible citizens are essential to this process. Students acquire skills to foster relationships with self, others, family, and the community.

Learning to Learn (Academic Development)

This area is an integral part of an individual’s pursuit of life-long learning. Being able to achieve educational success, identify and work toward goals, manage information, organize time, and locate resources are essential to this process. The student experiences success and maximizes educational potential through effort and commitment to producing high quality work. Academic development includes desired learning goals that require the student to have a command of decision-making, problem-solving, goal-setting, critical thinking, logical reasoning, and interpersonal communication skills.

Learning to Work (Career Development)

This area is an integral part of an individual’s pursuit of success in the world of work. Being able to develop the knowledge and skills to make realistic career plans, make a successful transition from school to work, achieve interdependence, and compete in a global economy are essential to this process. This area is the foundation for the development of skills that assist students in making a successful transition from school to the world of work, and from job-to-job, across their life career span.
Classroom guidance, small group activities, individual counseling sessions, as well as teacher referrals, will be utilized to help our children achieve their goals.
